Hello Everyone,

June Regional Day was a lovely day.  The weather was fine, allowing us the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful, secluded gardens at the Maria Assumpta Centre during the lunch break.

The day included two short presentations by quilters from the region.  The first was by Margaret Ramsay, our featured individual quilter, who represented this region for the “In the Spotlight” challenge at the Festival of Quilts in August 2007.  Later in the day, Dulwich Quilters told us about their group and the quilts they have made both individually and as group projects.  Both talks were very interesting.  The opportunity to gain an insight into the different ways people work is always fascinating and inspiring.

For part of the morning, we watched a number of demonstrations showing a variety of P&Q techniques, with the opportunity to try them for those who wished to do so.

During the afternoon, we held a Show & Tell session with plenty of quilts to admire, and then we settled down to listen to and learn from a Quilt Forum led by two well-known and experienced teachers, Jennifer Hollingdale and Grit Traum.  Those who had brought items for the Forum received advice and guidance on their work, whether they were “stuck” with their project or, needed advice on how to make their quilt more interesting.  We all learned a lot, especially those whose work was being discussed.  We certainly all went away filled with ideas to try out in our own work.

As always, our thanks go to all the demonstrators, teachers and volunteers who gave their time freely and made the day a success.  Thank you also to those who came to the day and, from the enthusiastic feedback we received both on the day and afterwards, really enjoyed it.

Our next Regional Day will be held on Saturday, 1st November.  Our speaker in the morning will be Alysn Midgelow-Marsden and, in the afternoon, there will be another opportunity to watch a variety of demonstrations and “have a go” at those you fancy trying.  There will be a Show & Tell, so do bring along your latest quilt and join in.  We will be particularly interested to see the end results of all the items discussed at the Quilt Forum in June.

Full details of the day are given in the Quilt Related Events section of the website, but please make a note of the November date in your diary now.

If you would like further information about the event, or would like to book tickets in advance, please contact me by email in the first instance at reg1@quiltersguild.org.uk

I’m looking forward to seeing you all in November, but in the meantime,

Enjoy your quilting.

Jane
